Surgery day

Well, I need to rewind a few days and fill in some holes on this whole deal...IE the surgery morning and in hospital. Which in essence is very little.

The morning of the surgery was quiet. My mother drove me to the hospital at 5am and we went into the pre op area to check in. There was hardly anyone around and it was dark out. The check in nurse was nice (I don't remember her name but she was from New Jersey). She asked me my name and date of birth which was going to be requested hundreds of times after this...she apologized for this - and I, on the other hand had no idea.

Into the gown I went, booties, then popped the silly blue shower cap onto my head. Off we went. As we approached the er area she said I had to REALLY put the hat on...oh-oh.

Pre -op was a buzz this morning...busier than the Wall street Starbucks on Monday morning! Wow-- these people are so perky. Well, I guess that is best.

I was wheeled over to my corner of the large room and my team of astronauts came over to 'prep' me...what is your name? what is your date of birth...here we go...

Well, we are going to give you a 'nerve block'...ah ok...that means nothing to me...it is like a spinal tap, but to your upper body so the pain wont be too bad for a while...hallelujah I am all for that...where is the gas???

I met my anesthesia guy and about a hundred other people and we re all having such a fun conversation...

...then I woke up.

I was in the same room, but the energy of the morning was gone. Everyone was moving at a slower quieter pace than just a few minutes ago.

Hi Susan, you are done.

WTH, I am?? That's it?? It's over - wow. I feel pretty good.

Doctor Hoeneke came over and said the surgery went really well and that it was easier than he was expecting. ummmm OK.....

This lady is going to take you to your room now and give you some more pain meds.

That was it. I was wheeled to a private hospital room with a tiny view of the ocean. It was quiet and peaceful, I must have fallen asleep.
